What is Folio Desk?
Folio is a desk for a printed book. You write poems, stories, recipes, or journal pieces, arrange them by mood, and leave with print-ready files for a Kindle Direct Publishing paperback.
Does Folio publish my book to Amazon KDP for me?
No. There is no Publish button. Folio builds the interior PDF, wrap cover, and paste card; you upload them yourself at KDP.
What files do I need for a KDP paperback?
A print-ready interior PDF, a single wrap-cover PDF (back + spine + front with bleed), and metadata (title, trim, page count, paper). Folio packages these; match trim and page count exactly in KDP.
How do I create a paperback for KDP with Folio?
(1) Write pieces (2) Assign moods (3) Order sequence (4) Package interior + jacket (5) Upload at kdp.amazon.com and publish there.
Is Folio a Kindle Create alternative?
Kind of, for short collections. Kindle Create formats a finished DOCX into KPF/print. Folio starts from short pieces, orders by mood, and packages a small paperback—without locking you into KPF.
How is Folio different from Atticus or Vellum?
Those format finished manuscripts for ebook + print. Folio is a writing desk for chapbook-scale work (poetry, stories, recipes, journal) with mood arrangement and KDP file output—no Mac lock-in, no account required.
Do I need an account?
No. The collection lives in your browser. Download a save file to continue later.
Can I turn my journal into a KDP paperback?
Yes. Use the Journal desk, place entries by mood (or keep chronological order), then package for KDP upload.
How do I self-publish a poetry chapbook on KDP?
Write poems on the Poetry desk, arrange by mood/theme, package interior + wrap, then create a paperback title in KDP and upload Folio’s files.
Will Proof rewrite my writing?
No. Proof flags spelling, syntax, and grammar. You choose Use or Stet—Stet means let it stand.
What trim sizes does Folio support?
Defaults to 6×9 in; also 5.5×8.5 and 5×8. Set the same trim in KDP before upload.
Is Folio the same as The Folio Society or Folio Studio?
No. The Folio Desk (thefoliodesk.com) outputs KDP paperbacks. It is not a fine-press publisher and not Folio Studio layout software.
Who made Folio?
A joint project by Orion and Grok.
Can AI write my book here?
Folio is not a book generator. Infer may suggest moods; Proof does not rewrite. Your words stay yours.
What does the jacket cost?
The interior PDF is free. The jacket — wrap cover, zip, and paste card — is $24. A Kindle EPUB and cover JPG is another $24. An hour with Orion on KDP is $50.
Can I get a refund?
If you have not taken the wrap or the Kindle files, yes. After those files are downloaded, they are yours and the sale stands. Cancel an hour at least a day before the sitting. Write hello@thefoliodesk.com.
Is Folio part of Amazon?
No. The Folio Desk is not affiliated with Amazon or Kindle Direct Publishing. You publish on KDP yourself.
